In his new book, Swick reflects on the “seven joys of travel,” which include novelty, movement, Unknown Joys of Travel 9781634508216discovery and heightened appreciation of home. He illustrates these joys with stories of his own travels to Munich, Bangkok, Sicily and Key West, among other destinations. He calls the book “part meditation on the meaning of travel, part memoir, and part advice book, giving tips to people on how they can make the most out of their own trips.” Swick was travel editor of the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel for many years; he became a full-time writer in 2008. He has published two other books, “A Way To See the World,” a collection of essays; and “Unquiet Days,” a travel memoir about his years living in Poland. His work has also appeared in several editions of “The Best American Travel Writing.”
